In a thrilling final, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clinched their third IPL title by defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets. KKR's all-rounder Sunil Narine was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Virat Kohli led the scoring charts with 741 runs, while Harshal Patel of Punjab Kings topped the wicket-takers list with 24 wickets.

The tournament maintained its traditional format, comprising a group stage followed by playoffs. The playoffs were held from May 21 to May 26, with Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator hosted at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, and Qualifier 2 and the final at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
